Anika Noni Rose shared her own #MeToo story on SiriusXM’s Make It Plain show Thursday. In a candid and emotional interview with with host Mark Thompson, The Quad actress revealed, “I have never spoken of this, but I will say this out loud now: I was assaulted on a plane last year. And I haven’t been able to get this person’s name; they won’t give me the name of the person.”
Rose, who told a handful of friends about the assault, recalled it happened without warning. “I don’t know this person. He didn’t introduce himself. There was no, ‘Hi, how are you doing?’ And I was asleep before the plane even took off; I’m one of those sleepers,” she said in the pre-taped interview. “That engine started and I’m like a baby in car. I’m out. He ruined it. Ruined it.”
The stranger’s assault “woke” Rose up, so she alerted the airline’s crew. “We turned that plane around,” she said. “I was offered that option in the beginning, and I said no, because it seemed like the person was then going to go to sleep. I felt like, ‘Maybe he’s chilling.’ I told the steward and stewardess, ‘I just want you to keep an eye on this person. I just want you to know that this is happening.’ And then he said some things that were so out of the box, that I was like, ‘Let’s stop the plane.’ But at that point, the plane was…We had left late. We were starting to take off late. I didn’t know who had connections somewhere else, who was trying to get somewhere important, so I was like, ‘It’s a short flight. Just pay attention to him. Let’s just keep it moving.'”
Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb opened up about Matt Lauer‘s departure on Wednesday’s episode of The Tonight Show.
Kotb replaced Lauer on Today after he was terminated from NBC News for alleged inappropriate sexual behavior.
“It was a difficult time for the show—no question,” Kotb said about Lauer’s departure. “We were just talking about how do you navigate those waters.”
Viewers will recall how Guthrie announced the termination back in November and said she she felt “heartbroken” for both Lauer and the accuser. She also opened up about dealing with conflicting feelings.
“We are grappling with a dilemma that so many people have faced these last few weeks: How do you reconcile your love for someone with the revelation that they have behaved badly?” she said at the time. “And I don’t know the answer to that.”
Kim Kardashian is officially a mom of three, but getting here was no easy feat.
While her and husband Kanye West‘s third little one made her healthy arrival into the world earlier this week, the reality star is now getting candid about the challenges the family faced in their journey to have another child.
As is well known by now, the parents elected to use a gestational carrier to welcome their daughter. As the star clarified on her app, a surrogate traditionally donates her own egg and has it implanted by the father-to-be’s sperm. In the case of a gestational carrier, the egg does not belong to the woman carrying the baby. As has been documented on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim suffered high-risk conditions preeclampsia and placenta accreta during her first two pregnancies and heeded the advice of her doctors not to carry a baby again.
Brigitte Bardot is probably not a fan of the #MeToo movement.
The 83-year-old outspoken French former film actress and ’50s and ’60s international sex symbol has in recent years become known as an animal activist and has stirred controversy over comments about gay people, Muslims and immigrants. In an interview with French news magazine Paris Match that was posted on Wednesday, she was asked about her thoughts on actresses who have denounced sexual harassment.
“Regarding actresses, and not women in general, it is, in the vast majority of cases, hypocritical, ridiculous, without interest,” she said in French. “I have never been a victim of sexual harassment. And I thought it was nice to be told that I was beautiful or that I had a nice little ass. This kind of compliment is nice. But there are many actresses who flirt with producers to get a role. Then, so that we talk about them, they say that they have been harassed…In reality, rather than benefiting them, it hurts them.”
“It was a great finale, it’s an even better premiere. It’s very exciting, very intense,” star Kevin McKidd told E! News on the white carpet at ABC’s 2018 Winter TCA Press Tour party. “It’s an intense episode, especially with the Paul Stadler character coming back to haunt Jo’s character. It’s a really powerful episode.”
“Camilla does an incredible job in the next two episodes of that. Really does an incredible job with an issue that’s actually
very timely,” his co-star James Pickens Jr. said, adding, “It’s interesting the timing of everything, but obviously the conversation has been what it’s been over the last two, three months, so I think this a way for folks to dialogue about it. And the way that we’ve been telling stories for the last 14 seasons, I think it puts a different kind of platform to it. And Shonda’s been brilliant at doing that, so I think it’s going to open up some discussion on some whole other different kind of paradigm, so it should be interesting.”
Monica Potter wants to expand her family one more time.
On Wednesday afternoon, the beloved Parenthood star revealed some big news on Instagram. As it turns out, she’s expecting another baby!
“I have something to share…” the owner of Monica Potter Home wrote to her followers while debuting her baby bump online.
This marks the second child for Monica and her husband Daniel Christopher Allison. The 46-year-old actress also has two grown sons from her marriage to Tom Potter.
As soon as the news was out, fans and followers couldn’t help but express their joy and excitement on social media.
Time to get ordained, David Harbour!
The Stranger Things star made a not-so-small digital deal with a fan this week when she asked what it would take to get him to officiate her wedding in September. The answer? 125,000 retweets…and the first slice of cake.
“Provided date works with s3 shooting schedule, I will get ordained and perform ceremony,” he tweeted back on Tuesday. “I get to read an esteemed love letter of my choosing, and after the cake is officially cut, I get the very first piece. #allthecakes.”
Well, ask and you shall receive! Less than 24 hours, the Internet had delivered.
“Dammit. Not even 24hours. You’re kidding me. @ErickaElizabth DM me please to get the ball rolling,” he agreed. “I’m making it seriously hard next time, internet, this is not over between us…”
With a pair of evocative and powerful interviews released by Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, Jan. 17 in near tandem, it was revealed that, knowing she could probably demand ABC simply begin printing money for her at this point, Pompeo has indeed fought for what she rightfully thought she deserved. The result? With a contract extension that will cover Grey’s Anatomy’s inevitable 15th and 16th seasons, she’s officially TV’s highest-paid dramatic actress, with THR reporting a $575,000 payday per episode, plus a signing bonus and two full backend equity points on the show, totaling $20 million a year. Additionally, she’ll officially become a producer on Grey’s beginning at this season’s midway point, as well as a co-executive producer on the upcoming untitled spinoff.
Not too shabby for someone who had to be convinced to even consider auditioning for the now-iconic role of Meredith Grey by her agent.
Lara Croft is a survivor, all right.
Warner Bros. released the second trailer for Tomb Raider Thursday morning, set to a dramatic cover version of Destiny’s Child‘s 2001 hit “Survivor.” It’s an appropriate backing track, as the “fiercely independent” 21-year-old Lara (Alicia Vikander) must use every tool at her disposal to stay alive as she sets off to learn what happened to her father (Dominic West).
“I thought I saw Dad, again,” Lara tells her roommate. “I think I’m going mad.”
Set seven years after her father’s death, Lara goes in search of his last-known destination: “a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan,” according to the film’s official synopsis. Facing “extremely treacherous” odds, “the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara. “Armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit,” the nascent adventurer must “push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown.”
Migos rapper Offset is defending one of his lyrics that many perceive to be homophobic, saying it is not about gay people.
He is featured on rapper YFN Lucci‘s track “Boss Life” and raps, “Pinky ring crystal clear, 40k spent on a private Lear / 60k solitaire / I cannot vibe with queers.”
“I didn’t write the line about gay people,” Offset said on Instagram on Thursday, alongside a screenshot of Google’s dictionary’s first definition of the word “queer”—an adjective meaning “strange” or “odd.” He cropped the image above a part that describes that word as an informal, offensive term for a homosexual man.
“I have said before since these issues before that I got love for all people,” the rapper said. “My passion for fashion has lead me to a lot of gay people around me who I have mad respect for and we are very cool so I’m not in a place where I’m hating like that. When I wrote that I was thinking of words that could rhyme with the others (here, lear, solitaire, bear) and I saw this definition about her having a queer feeling she was being watched and it fit what I was thinking about a stalker creepy paparazzi situation.”
Larry Nassar picked a fight with Judge Rosemarie Aquilina in court Thursday morning.
The 54-year-old former U.S. Gymnastics and Michigan State doctor, who is accused of sexually abusing over 100 people, wrote a six-page, single-spaced letter sharing his concern over his ability to listen to more statements of the witnesses.
Nassar also complained about the judge in the letter, saying she turned the proceeding into a “media circus,” NBC News reports.
“Now this is entertaining to me,” the judge stated as she read the letter in court Thursday. “It’s delusional. You need to talk about these issues with a therapist and that’s not me.”
The original Party of Five, which ran from 1994-2000, starred Scott Wolf, Matthew Fox, Neve Campbell, and Lacey Chabert (and various actors who played the youngest, Owen) as siblings who come together after their parents die in a car crash. It also had a spinoff called Time of Your Life, which followed Jennifer Love-Hewitt‘s character as she moved to New York, but it was canceled after one season.
In June 2017, Scott Wolf and Neve Campbell appeared on Watch What Happens Live together, where they both shot down fans’ hopes for a revival featuring the OG Salinger siblings.
“It wouldn’t make any sense whatsoever. If we haven’t over the death of our parents 20 years later we have a serious problem,” Campbell said.
Blac Chyna congratulated Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on the birth of their child on Thursday.
The 29-year-old reality star was walking through a parking lot when she was asked if she was happy about the new baby.
“Yes, always a blessing,” she told The Blast. “Babies are blessings.”
Chyna has a complicated relationship with the Kardashian family. The model became engaged to Rob Kardashian in April 2016 after three months of dating. However, the two have since broken up. The two share a 1-year-old daughter named Dream Kardashian.
In September, the two reached a private custody agreement. At the time, Chyna also decided she would no longer pursue a domestic violence case against her ex.
Unlike their earliest MTV years, the stars took to their social media accounts to document their journeys down to Miami early Thursday. “Got my coffee.. 4 suitcases and a little bit of meatball fire left in my soul,” Deena Cortese wrote online. “[Peace] out Jersey !! See you in a month.”
Meanwhile, Snooki prepared by packing a few bottles of her eponymous tanning lotion. “Off to Miami b–ches. Why am i awake. I miss my fam already,” she posted on Instagram. Farley, who like Snooki is also now a mother of two, took her kids for burgers before taking the trip. “Daddy will be taking good care of you while bad moms meet @jerseyshore,” she joked on social media.
Ronnie and Pauly shared an update from the plane, writing, “And we are off!”
