Kate Middleton is addressing an issue that affects mothers across the globe: postpartum depression.
According to a King’s College London study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry earlier this year, 25% of pregnant women experience mental health issues.
To learn more about the subject, the Duchess of Cambridge visited the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute at King’s College London on Wednesday.
During her tour of the institute, the royal learned about challenges surrounding maternal mental health, biological factors that can influences a mother’s mental health and support that is available to new mothers. She also stopped by a laboratory—part of King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience—and received a briefing on perinatal research from several doctors and professors.
The institute also works on new treatments to help patients affected by Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia and epilepsy. A lighthearted moment occurred when Kate was speaking with the scientists. One of the professionals told her about an experimental therapy that used an avatar to help people with schizophrenia deal with hearing loss.
Kate replied, “as in the movie Avatar;” however, she was told the avatar didn’t resemble the character from James Cameron‘s 2009 film.
“She was interested in the fact that we look at the whole range of issues including PTSD and self-harm,” said Professor Louise Howard, who teaches women’s mental health. “She was interested in understanding the whole breadth of the issues and how to make people more robust.”
On her upcoming Tell Me You Love Me tour, Demi Lovato will again give back to her fans in a big way—and may even change their lives.
The 25-year-old singer’s concerts will be preceded by inspirational speeches and group therapy and wellness workshops by CAST Centers to promote dialogue about mental health. Lovato is an alumna and co-owner of the Los Angeles mental health and wellness treatment center and was a patient in 2011. She had offered such services during her and Nick Jonas‘ Future Now tour in 2016.
“It’s basically like a therapy session before the concerts and we have speakers from all over and we’re also helping out with different charities from around the country,” Lovato said on Good Morning America on Wednesday. “So it’ll be an incredible, very moving and inspiring experience.”
“I want to do this because one, it was such an incredible experience the last time we did this on tour,” Lovato said. “I’ve actually met people that go to CAST because they went to CAST on tours and realized they needed to get sober or they needed to better themselves in some other way and it’s changed lives and I want to be able to do that again. It’s a part of my whole…life, about giving back and I think it’s really important that I continue to do this while I’m on tour.”
Cheryl Lloyd has been keeping a secret: She’s pregnant!
The British pop star shared a picture of her growing baby bump on Instagram Wednesday and apologized for her social media absence. “I know it seems like I’ve been quiet for a while but I wanted to take this opportunity to bring you all up to speed on what I’ve been up to over the last year. I decided to take some time away from the public eye to focus on what really matters and get back to what I truly love doing,” she wrote. “As you all know, making music and singing is where it all began for me, it’s what makes me truly happy, and I wanted to get back to that happy place once again, enter the studio and focus on simply making great music for you all.”
Lloyd, who married hairdresser Craig Monk in 2013, said she “cannot wait” to share her “amazing new songs” with fans. Her last hit, “Activated,” was released in the summer of 2016.
The X-Files is going absurdly funny, again, and taking on “fake news.”
In “The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat,” an episode written and directed by Darin Morgan, Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) explore The Mandela Effect.
The Mandela Effect is when large groups of people remember an alternate history. In The X-Files’ case, this involves guest star Brian Huskey (as Reggie Something) and the duo exploring the history of their investigations. It’s a wonderfully bizarre tale from the man who brought you last season’s “Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster” and classic episodes such as “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose” and “Jose Chung’s ‘From Outer Space.'”
The episode features Anderson’s Scully saying the phrase “leprechaun taint” and the Shaquille O’Neal flick Kazaam gets referenced many times.
Spanish tax authorities say Shakira is under investigation for allegedly failing to pay income tax between 2011 and 2014, saying she lived in the country during those years, reports say.
Sources close to the pop star, whose fortune is estimated to be more than $200 million, deny that there was any tax evasion and say she was outside Spain most of that time, BBC News said, adding that they also stated that Shakira has always complied with her tax obligations.
The Colombian singer had officially switched residences from the Bahamas to Barcelona in 2015 and lives in the Spanish city with her husband and Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique and their two sons—Milan, 5, and Sasha, who will turn 3 later this month. Spanish authorities claim that Shakira had already lived in Barcelona between 2012 and 2014, according to Sky News.
Spanish media report that Shakira’s tax bill could be tens of millions of dollars.
A spokesperson for the auditing firm PwC confirmed to E! News that Shakira had hired the company for the investigation.
“It’s evidence you killed Dominick,” Annalise counters.
As Frank sees it, the incessant calls from the same number since he killed Dominick means only one thing: Jorge (Esai Morales), Laurel’s evil father, has no idea that the guy’s dead. And since it’s an Antares phone, he’s certain it won’t lead Jorge right to their doorsteps. It’s almost like he doesn’t know what sort of show he’s on.
“Get rid of it, Frank,” Annalise insists. “You want to end up the next dead body around here?”
“Oh, who’s gonna kill me,” Frank asks. “You or Jorge?” To see Annalise’s surprising answer to that question, be sure to check out the clip above!
“As it turns out, much to my demise, Dr. Nassar was not a doctor. He in fact was, and forever shall be, a child molester, and a monster of a human being. End of story! He abused my trust, he abused my body and he left scars on my psyche that may never go away,” her statement, presented in court by a prosecutor, read. “Larry Nassar deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison. Not only because of what he did to me, my teammates and so many other little girls—He needs to be behind bars so he will never prey upon another child. I urge you to impose the maximum sentence upon him.”
Maroney’s “Fierce Five” teammate Aly Raisman, who also publicly named Nassar as her abuser, initially said she would not be attending the sentencing because of trauma, but ultimately decided to appear in person. Addressing Nassar directly, the 23-year-old declared, “The tables have turned, Larry. We are here, we have our voices and we are not going anywhere.”
Here’s a Hollywood couple that makes it work on their terms!
Elsa Pataky,41, and Chris Hemsworth,34, live a seemingly quite life full of everyday adventures with their daughter India Rose, 5, and their twin sons Tristan and Sasha,3.
The Spanish actress is now opening up to Elle Australia about her marriage and life with the Thor star.
During an interview in the rolling hills of Byron Bay, the star got candid about how having children and a family changed her.
“It’s interesting how you can be a successful woman who has been working her whole life, and then you have kids, and suddenly your career isn’t as important, and you don’t appreciate it as much, and you just think, ‘What am I doing? I have been fighting all my life for this, and now I don’t know if I really want it?’
“It’s unfair in a way because I don’t think men go through that. But when you become a mum, everything that was important goes into second position. You change a lot. You mature, you see life differently and learn so many things,” she says.
Elton John‘s future really does lie beyond the yellow brick road.
In a press conference Wednesday, John announced he will soon embark on a farewell tour. Despite reports to the contrary, he also clarified that he is not retiring from music altogether. Anderson Cooper hosted a Q&A with John, a recipient of five Brit Awards and five Grammy Awards, in New York. It was live-streamed Google Cardboard or Google Daydream for VR180.
John opened with a performance of “Tiny Dancer” and “I’m Still Standing.”
“The announcement is that I am not going to be touring anymore, apart form the last tour, which is going to start in September of this year. It’ll be a global tour. And it’s the last time that I will be touring and traveling the world. My priorities have changed in my life. Ten years ago, if you’d had said I have to stop touring, I’d say, ‘No, no. I’m a working man,'” John said, adding, “I’ve had an amazing life. I’ve had an amazing career. I’ve been incredibly lucky. My life has changed. The priorities of my life have changed. My priorities now are my children, my husband and my family. I’ve been touring since I was 17 in various bands, and as Elton John in 1969. And I thought the time is right to say thank you to all my fans around the world globally and to say goodbye and just to have a breathe.” The boys will join him for nine months with a tutor, he said. “When I stop they’re going to be 10 and 8, and that’s a very important time in their lives.”
To do it properly, John will embark on a three-year, 300-date tour all around the world. “It’ll be the best production I’ve ever done,” he promised. “It’ll be a wonderful way to thank everyone.”
John plans to stay “creative,” and despite reports to the contrary, he said, “I’m in great health.”
Rest assured, John said he will still be “making music” in the years to come.
You might notice that Jughead (Cole Sprouse) is missing from the list, which makes sense given the fact that Sprouse has often said (including in the video above) that he will never sing. Jughead will instead be in charge of documenting the making of the musical, and his documentary will air as the episode of Riverdale called “A Night to Remember.”
According to the official and extremely meta Riverdale High press release, “Future Tony Winner Kevin Keller helms as director, combining iconic elements from the novel, 1976 movie, 1988 Broadway production, 2012 Off-Broadway revival, and 2013 remake to create a retro-yet-timeless interpretation of Stephen King’s horror classic.”
Happy Hump Day?
12 camels have been disqualified from a beauty pageant in Saudi Arabia after getting Botox injections. Yes, you read that right. According to The National, the animals were disqualified from the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival after receiving the cosmetic enhancements.
“They use Botox for the lips, the nose, the upper lips, the lower lips and even the jaw,” Ali Al Mazrouei, son of a top Emirati breeder, told the publication. “It makes the head more inflated so when the camel comes it’s like, ‘Oh look at how big is that head is. It has big lips, a big nose.'”
Wanna go on a truly magical cruise?
American travel company Barge Lady Cruises is offering a six-day trip aboard the luxury boat Magna Carta, which will sail on the River Thames in England and take you to several locations where the Harry Potter movies were filmed.
The cost? At least $4,190 per person. The river cruise boat fits up to eight passengers in four rooms and contains two decks, a spacious salon and dining room, a hot tub, under floor heating in the cabin and bathroom, a flat screen TV and DVD player and WiFi with limited availability.
The itinerary includes stops at Virginia Water lake, where Harry first encounters Buckbeak in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the street that contains the house where Harry used to live with his Uncle Vernon and Petunia Dursley, and Warner Brothers Studios, where you will take part in the official Harry Potter tour.
Passengers will also be taken to Oxford University’s Christ Church College, whose buildings have served as sets and inspiration for sets in several Harry Potter films. In fact, its Great Hall served as the inspiration for Hogwarts’ own majestic dining hall.
James Corden doesn’t think he’ll be invited to the royal wedding, but there’s another invitation he really has his eye on.
During an appearance on CBS This Morning Wednesday, the 2018 Grammys host got to chatting about the upcoming wedding between Prince Harry and American star Meghan Markle. Naturally, the future nuptials have caused quite the frenzy in the United States but, as Corden pointed out to the morning news anchors, his native country doesn’t react with the same level of enthusiasm.
“I think inherently as British people we just don’t get quite as excited about anything as America does and to our detriment many times,” the late-night host said.
While living in the head-space of Koresh was challenging for Kitsch, who is also an executive producer, he revealed it’s actually the time immediately after the cameras stop rolling that is the most difficult for him.
“The toughest was when you’re wrapped for me, when you’re done-done,” he said. “But you prep for that as much as you can and it’s going to take a couple of months to get back to feeling good in your own skin, to be honest.”
Another bonus of production ending? “I could eat after, so that was exciting,” Kitsch admitted, as he lost a lot of weight to play Koresh, leading to a “jarring” transformation for his co-stars.
“Jack Pearson was our Valentine so we equally understand your pain with his loss. We love him and we love you too,” the brand responded. “Don’t further add to our heartbreak by no longer using Crock-Pot Slow Cookers, rest assured our products have been generationally tested by your family and friends.”
Another fan named Ruthie asked, “What is your response to This Is Us? So many people are worried now.”
“We’re heartbroken over last night’s episode too!” they replied. “Ruthie, we’re innocent until proven guilty.”
So far, trendy kitchen tool and slow cooker upgrade Instant Pot hasn’t yet realized what a great marketing tool this is, but if they’ve had an uptick in sales today, hopefully they’ll figure out who to thank.
